Celebrating our Assembly Leaders and Upcoming Parent/Teacher/Student Conversations
I would like to take a moment to celebrate our fantastic Grade Six student leaders who have been leading our assemblies this year. Their ability to organise, coordinate, adapt quickly to changes, and present with such confidence has been truly impressive. It's always a pleasure working alongside them, and I look forward to seeing the upcoming groups in action. Congratulations to those who have already taken the lead - you have done an outstanding job!
Looking ahead, our parent/teacher/student conversations are coming up soon. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to welcome families into the school, celebrate student progress and discuss learning goals together. Bookings will be made via Schoolzine and SZapp. Details will be shared in Week 6 of this term (beginning 2 June). Families will be able to select times that suit them best. We greatly value these conversations and look forward to connecting with you.
Kind regards
Ms Arendt
Principal

Walk Safely To School Day (WSTSD)

Friday 16 May saw a great start to the school day with students accepting the challenge of walking to school 'either all or part of the way'.
Many students reported to staff that they had tried to change their morning routine and walk some lengthier distances to arrive at school.
Students and families joined us in the front courtyard area for fruit, raisin toast, milk, and hot chocolate drinks.
This was another extremely successful and social occasion, and one that Rosetta Primary School has been connected to since the first campaign 26 years ago.
Thanks should go out to Ms Cleaves who organised and managed the hot chocolate drinks. Mr Clark who helped with the tables and organising the space. Watch out for the green trolley - as once a month it will appear in the front courtyard for hot chocolate drinks. Also, a special thanks to some members of the Student Parliament Executive who were in attendance – Annabel G., Emily, Felicity, Annabel Z., Mary, Sabbatha, and Esther who managed the event on the morning and supported students and families to enter the competitions or have something to eat and drink. It is always a pleasure to see the enthusiasm of the students who stepped up to support other students with participating and joining in this event to promote the message that Active Kids Are Healthy Kids.
A message from the National WSTSD committee to all Primary Schools about this annual campaign and event which encourages all primary school children, their parents, and carers, to walk safely and regularly to school:
It is important for children and young people to be active every day. Physical activity has more social, emotional, physical, and mental health benefits. Walking to school is a great way to incorporate walking into a daily routine to support healthy development. Regular physical activity, especially walking, can improve self-esteem and confidence, help concentration, and improve overall fitness.
Encouraging kids to be active each day establishes good habits that can stay with them throughout their lives.
The objectives are better health, cleaner air, reduced car dependency, improved road safety and increased use of public transport.

School Association AGM
The School Association will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 12 June in the Learning Centre at 5pm. All are welcome to attend. We hope to vote in our 2025 Executive. Nomination forms are available from the school office if you are interested in holding a position (Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer). Please email rosetta.primary.association@gmail.com with any questions.
Even if you don't want to nominate for an Executive position, we would love for you to come along. Community voice is important, and these meetings are a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening around the school.
Learning in Kinder A
In Kinder A we have been learning about sounds through the Jolly Phonics Program. There is a story, action and jingle for each letter sound with follow-up activities and constant revision of the sounds we have learnt.
We have been listening for sounds at the beginning of words and have begun matching these sounds to letters.
In kinder we use games and hands on activities to consolidate our learning. Here are some photos of us enjoying our sound and number work.

Japanese News
Welcome to Japanese in the ‘Year of the Snake’. As there are 12 animals in the Chinese/Japanese Zodiac, students in Grade 6, who were born 12 years ago (2013), were born in the last ‘Year of the Snake’. Likewise, all babies born this year will be a ‘Year of the Snake’ baby. In Japanese the word for snake is:へび (hebi. Attributes of ‘Snake Year’ people are as follows: wise, patient, innovative, diplomatic, artistic, imaginative, with a good sense of humour. Students in all classes have designed a heading page for ‘The Year of the Snake’ as well as making and decorating their own origami へび.Some students designed a poster for the statewide ‘Year of the Snake’ poster competition, which was run by The Japanese Teachers’ Network of Tasmania. Congratulations to the following students whose posters were selected for the competition: Annabel, Emily and Mary. In Term 1, some classes were fortunate to welcome Mr Mao Iizuka from The Japan Foundation into their lessons. Students really enjoyed meeting and working with Mao.
Please enjoy some photos of Japanese students and their work.

E Team News

The E Team are very excited to be working with Mr Danny Pulbrook from Glenorchy Landcare (also parent of Millie in PA) and members from the Glenorchy City Council, to improve the area around the Jacques Creek area adjacent to the school. We have long been interested in developing this area and are very pleased to be participating in small groups to firstly, clean up the litter in the area and secondly, to participate in a planting session on one of the banks.
Our fun fact this week is:
Jacques Creek is named after Mr. Ernest Percy Jacques, who was a pioneer of the district. Many years ago he bought land in Rosetta, cleared 67 acres and later extended the area considerably. He established an orchard and nursery. Mr. Jacques took an active part in farming and orcharding affairs, and helped develop the Glenorchy Municipality.
