Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today’s newsletter is a day of welcomes and farewells.
On behalf of everyone at Rosetta Primary School, I would like to welcome Mrs Frances Thorp to our school as our new principal in Term 4. I know she will greatly enjoy meeting and working with the Rosetta community.
I would also like to take a moment to thank and acknowledge Mr David Shepherd for his wonderful contribution as Chair of the Rosetta Primary School Association. David has been a tremendous support to our school in so many ways -from running barbecues, warmly welcoming visitors, and connecting with politicians at our awards assembly, to leading our meetings with clarity and confidence.
He has celebrated our achievements with us and has also played an important part in setting goals and ideas for the future of Rosetta Primary. His leadership, encouragement, and dedication have made a real difference to our school community.
On behalf of all of us, thank you David, for everything you have done.
I would also like to congratulate and welcome Mr Ben Naismith who has been nominated and voted in as the new Chair of Rosetta Primary School Association. Enjoy and all the very best in the role, Ben.
Have a wonderful break everyone and now I will officially sign off for the last time 😊
Kind regards
Deirdre Arendt
Principal
Ms Arendt's final assembly message from 22 September 2025:
Hello everyone,
To the students sitting in front of me, it has been the greatest privilege to stand here at assemblies and walk into this school each day. I have loved seeing you as dedicated learners in every classroom and truly enjoyed the many conversations I’ve had with you all along the way. Whenever I have asked you to reflect or take on a challenge, you all have tried. That is what makes you successful learners every day.
I leave with gratitude, enormous pride, and the confidence that all of you sitting in front of me today will continue being those learners, every day, into the future.
Thank you to all the staff, both here in the hall and elsewhere, for everything you do to make this school a place of learning and care. And to our families and carers – thank you for your constant support.
And most of all, I leave with so many good memories of each and every one of you – memories that I will happily take into the future.
Thank you
Ms Arendt
Principal

2026 Class Preferences - closing tomorrow
Student placement in classes is a highly planned process with many considerations going into place ranging from educational, social and individual needs. Students and staff have an input, and it is also important for you as parents to have an input on your child’s friendship group. Your input does help inform our planning around the organisation of student friendship allocation to class groups.
The time to make a request for 2026 is from Thursday 11 September 2025 until Friday 26 September 2025. We are providing just over two weeks for your input via the attached form titled 2026 Class Preference Form. Once this time has ended, requests cannot be accommodated because of the complexity around class creations. Numerous hours of planning and discussion go into them and once they are compiled, late requests bring about considerable changes. All requests, by the due date, are carefully considered and there are times when we can accommodate them and there are times when we cannot.
If you would like to make a friendship request for a 2026 class placement, could you fill out the form below (2026 Class Preference Form) and submit it by Friday 26 September. Thank you.

Farewell Ms Arendt and Happy Retirement

Friday 26 September will see the final day of Ms Arendt’s principalship at Rosetta Primary. Her time as principal has been marked by dedication, leadership, and a full commitment to all students and families. 13 years as principal has meant that Rosetta Primary has established a stable learning environment where students and families are valued and respected and learning opportunities have been embedded and reflect current educational practice. Changes are always embraced in structured and supported ways, and the values of responsibility, courage, responsibly, connection and growth are always at the forefront of work with students.
Ms Arendt has led the improvements in school wide results and a recognition of successful practice in both literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing. Student Parliament and student voice are achievements that students have embraced. There are high levels of participation in all specialist lessons and programs which also recognises the excellence of teaching and acknowledges that all students see themselves as learners.
These achievements are all a recognition of her dedication to education and her personal enthusiasm for learning - things that the Rosetta School community have gained from in so many positive ways.
Ms Arendt has been a visionary and uplifting in her leadership. She has touched each of us – with either the big smile – that the students recognise or the laughter that students say they can work out wherever she is. She is always out and about around the school connecting with students and families or in the carpark after school talking with students. Her presence will be missed.
Ms Arendt can truly look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.
You will be missed Ms Arendt, but we will hold your time at Rosetta Primary as one that shared good humour and enthusiasm – and as the Student Parliament commented – a time of positive connections!
Congratulations and thanks to a time well spent at Rosetta Primary. Happy Retirement!
To our community, please call in or send your good wishes to Ms Arendt – she will appreciate your thoughtfulness during the last days of this term.

Good wishes from the Student Parliament

This photo was taken by Annabel G. (5-6D) on Friday 19 September. This was following the Student Parliament Morning Tea Celebration to honour Ms Arendt’s contribution to the school.
Students also acknowledged her support of how student voice in the school is valued and how she helps the Student Parliament create a positive approach to achieve their goals on behalf of all students.

News from Prep-1
This term students in Prep-1 have been exploring the concept of partitioning one- and two-digit numbers in a variety of ways. Through hands-on activities using base ten blocks, students have been learning to break numbers apart into tens and ones and we have even had a look at 3-digit numbers to challenge ourselves! We have been engaging with games and activities to deepen our understanding of how numbers can be represented.

E Team
The E Team members have been busy over the last couple of weeks trying to keep up with the weeds in the garden, as you at home would have no doubt noticed!
We have also been watching our peas and garlic growing beautifully.
Our Kipli garden has been weeded and the plants are slowly starting to establish themselves.
On Thursday this week a group of E team students will again be working alongside the Glenorchy City Council to complete the shrub and grass planting beside Jaques Creek. This will take the total number of plants we have planted to 100.
Along with all our gardening, we have been doing some litter patrols and are pleased to report that we have not found a great deal.
Our fun fact for this week is about students starting their own gardens:
Kids love a space they can call their own, so set aside an area just for them. In small spaces, a few pots and containers will be enough. If you have more room, create a raised garden bed, no higher than 40cm. This stops the kids walking on the plants yet still makes everything easy to reach.
It’s as easy as that!

Brixhibition Lego Competition
Recently Rosetta Primary conducted our own section of the Brixhibition Lego Competition. What a fantastic array of creations we had entered. Congratulations and well done to all students who entered – Chenuka and Eliza (Kinder B), Jim, Jameson, Alfred and Alby (Grade 1-2), Kasai, Charlie H, Bailey, Ava, Libby, Max, Lachlan K (Grade 3-4), and Emily and Toby (Grade 5-6).
Please take time to look at the photos of the creations.
We had some age group winners who were:
Kinder Prep Chenuka
Grade 1-2 Jim
Grade 3-4 Lachlan K
Grade 5-6 Emily
Our overall winner was Lachlan K, whose Lego displayed a group of robots building a monster truck. Lachlan’s Lego will be on display at the Brihibition Lego Show which is on over the holidays.
Well done and thankyou to everybody involved.
