2024 Classes

Class Placements for 2024

It is up to the time when we are starting to look at 2024 classes.

Student placement in classes is a highly planned process with many considerations going into place ranging from educational, social and individual needs. Students and staff have an input and it is also important for you as parents to have an input, if you wish to do so.

The time to make a request for 2023 is from 31.08.2023 until 14.09.2023. We are providing just over two weeks for your input via letter or email. Once this time has ended, requests cannot be accommodated because of the complexity around class creations. Many hours of planning and discussion go into them and once they are compiled, small late requests bring about considerable changes.

If you would like to make a request for 2024 class placement, could you send your written communication to the office by Thursday 14 September or email rosetta.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au . All requests are carefully considered and there are times when we can accommodate them and there are times when we can’t. However, your input does help inform our planning around the organisation of student allocation to class groups.

Kind regards

Deirdre

Communication to Families – School Satisfaction Survey 2023 - Invitation

Every year the Department of Education and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.

We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Rosetta Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.

The survey is open from Monday 28 August 2023 until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Take the online survey by clicking this Family School Satisfaction Survey 2023 (microsoft.com) Link. or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/mmYJscI6hs

The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.

All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education and Young People staff.

Please contact the office if you require any assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

Grade 6 Transition Activities to Montrose Bay High School

It is that time of the year again when transition activities are underway with our destination high school – Montrose Bay High.  On Monday 21 August a group of students were able to experience a high school classroom. They explored the workspaces of the school, met some staff, and heard about routines and learning opportunities. Students also participated in a PE session. On Wednesday 23 August 5 students were invited to attend a STEM session where they undertook science challenges and experiments in the Lab. Over the remainder of the Term 3, we will have some more connections with the school.

Book Week 2023

Although Book Week is over for another year there is still a buzz around school and an excitement about costumes, books and what might be a costume in 2024. Students are always inspired by what they see others develop as a costume or the possibilities to use an old costume and embellish it in new and exciting ways.

We appreciated the support from families and especially for turning out to share in the fun of the parade.

Special mention must go to:

Mrs Devereux and Jon Lenthall who guided the judges and helped in so many ways on the day supporting students, taking photos, and genuinely acknowledging everyone’s costume or work.

To Ms Arendt and her Dalmatian team – an outstanding staff effort and one which set the tone of excitement for the day.   No doubt families will already have seen the photos! Also, to the office staff who helped manage the last -minute tasks and posting photos - your support is always appreciated.

Thank you: Emily, Annabel & Mary in (4A), Reuben (5-6A) and Sena & Sam in (5-6C) who patiently visited classrooms and looked at every costume, talked with students about their costumes and eventually made tough decisions about the awards. Thanks to Xavier and Makaylah (5-6D) who examined the colouring -in entries and helped judge the winners. Sam, Emily, Annabel, and Mary assisted with the prize presentations and the set up and pack up of the Hall. Their invaluable input throughout the day was amazing.  Thanks to staff for managing all the disruptions of the day with such good humour and with amazing patience. Miss Button, Mrs Brown, and Mr Johnston - thank you for helping with the Hall chairs etc.

Next year we have in mind new categories that acknowledge students wanting to create a team costume and others who are now showing the confidence, curiosity, and inspiration to author their own books and create their own costumes. Something to watch out for in 2024.

As always Happy reading and we look forward to seeing you for Book Week 2024.

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term at Rosetta Primary!

Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s primary school skipping challenge that helps kids move more, have fun and raise funds for lifesaving research and programs.

This year we’ve got an audacious goal to see our student Heart Heroes at Rosetta to log 40 hours of skipping throughout the program!

Register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started. www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Students will be skipping during PE sessions. You can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day on Friday September 15, from 2:00 – 2:45  this will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills. More details to come.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Winter Sports

On Tuesday August 22 Rosetta had 17 students participate in the SPSSA Winter Sports carnival and represented Rosetta across 5 sporting events. There were events held for AFL, AFLW, Soccer, Hockey and Netball.

A big congratulations to the students who tried out for these teams and congratulations to those who were selected. The day was a great success and students had a great time.

Well done to the following grade 5 & 6 students for representing Rosetta in:

AFL – Levi P, Levi B, Aiden, Hunter, Lucas Wi and Kai.

A special congratulations to Levi P for being selected as captain for the Northern Magpies Football team.

E Team

We would like to let our school community know that there are some items we have previously recycled which we are no longer able to accept.

Unfortunately, there is no collection for ring pulls or plastic lids so we are unable to collect them. Plastic lids can now be attached to bottles in your household recycle bins.

Sadly, this is a sign of the times and something which is a word wide issue….we are still waiting  for an  alternative to Redcycle for soft plastic recycling!!!

We ARE still able to collect oral care items (toothbrushes, empty toothpaste tubes etc) and batteries which we send for recycling. Batteries can be left at the office. There are also containers in the office and library for recycling old pens and pencils.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Our fun fact this week adds to this information…

Should you leave lids on plastic bottles for recycling?

According to the Association of Plastic Recyclers, “You do not need to remove the caps from your plastic water bottle before recycling them.” They continue, “While some people think removing the caps helps with sorting at the recycling facility, the opposite is in fact true.”

Our Tidy Tuesday certificates this week are for Connor, Oakley, Lachlan, Ollie, Ava , Libby, Pyper.

Well done to all those people.

Mrs Devereux

Science Week at LiL’s, Pre Kinder and Kinder

Last week the above-mentioned groups participated in some fun Science activities. There were lots of ooohs and aaahs and some surprised expressions on faces.

The most popular activities were definitely the bubbles, bicarb and vinegar volcanoes and Beebots.

Thank you to the wonderful team of Grade 6 helpers – Taylah, Aria, Mimi, Chris, Prahbleen, and Caitlin.

Prep – Grade 6 students will be involved in similar sessions later this week.

Young Tassie Scientists

On Wednesday 16 August the Grade 3, 3-4 and 4-5 classes were visited by 3 female Scientists studying at the UTAS.

Their areas of study included Decoding Genes, AI assistance in diagnosing cold and flu and Super Brain Cells. All the talks were informative and provoked some interesting questions and comments from the students. We would like to thank them for their visit.
