Outdoor Learning Area and Basketball Court

The Outdoor Learning Area and Basketball Court has been completed (hurray 😊) and for the last two days, many students have been on the courts playing basketball. Mr Johnstone has been busy pumping up basketballs and taking on extra duties whilst Mr Huseyin has been offering to do extra duties to also help the students on the courts. The crowning moment was today when the Jack Jumpers mascot along with trainers visited to take classes for exciting skill development sessions. How lucky we are.

It is a fabulous new space which will support a wide range of curriculum activities, outdoor lessons and lunchtime play. I would like to thank AllenBuilt for the planning, coordination and execution of the project.

External School Review

Rosetta Primary School will be participating in an external school review in the second week of Term 3. This is a valuable process within the department, and one that provides insight into our school’s performance culture, and practices.

A panel of three external reviewers will visit the school and spend time with various members of our school community. They’ll meet with the leadership team, staff, students, parent and community representatives. The aim is to develop a clear picture of how Rosetta Primary is progressing in key areas such as literacy, student wellbeing and engagement.

The panel will use the central guiding question:

“How does the school ensure that all students are known, safe, well, and learning?”

To answer this, the reviewers will observe classes, review data, and engage in thoughtful conversations with all stakeholders. Their observations will be compiled into a detailed report, highlighting our current strengths and achievements as well as providing clear recommendations for future improvement.

School Canteen

The Rosetta Primary School Canteen is set to reopen in early Term 3. This exciting development has been made possible by the support of Mrs Andrea Grieve, who's kindly offered to take on the role of running the canteen. Mrs Grieve has many years of hospitality and business management.

Many thanks to Mrs Grieve, the canteen has been missed by our students and families and we are delighted to see it return as a valuable part of our school experience.

Kind regards

Deirdre Arendt

Principal

Contemporary Learning Area

After many months of patiently watching our new outdoor learning area being developed, students are finally enjoying this amazing new space.  We look forward to making the most of this versatile space!

Thanks go to AllenBuilt, Kings Outdoor Living, MCA Architects and Shane Bogus from DECYP for bringing this project to life.

Interschool Cross-Country

On Tuesday 3 June a Rosetta Primary team competed in the Division A Interschool Cross-Country. We finished 17th for the day. Students are to be commended for their efforts at this carnival where we were competing against much larger schools. Congratulations and thank you to Wil G and Evie C who were selected as Captains of Rosetta for the carnival.

From this event, we had 6 students invited to the State Cross-Country Carnival held at Symmons Plains near Launceston on Wednesday 17 June. Well done to Annabel G, Ella N, Charlie D, Amos G, Liam C and Noah C!

Arts Program Update:

It has been a busy term in the Arts Program at Rosetta Primary.  We have had students working on a variety of projects across the grades.

The lower years have been looking at the art elements and principles of shape, balance, colour and rhythm in art, with their work on the artists Henri Matisse and Paul Klee.  Some beautiful collage cities were created, and we’ve had fun with our investigative project ‘What can you make with a shape?’.

Middle years students have been focused on how balance and composition can be used to add dimension to their work, through their work on their imaginary cities.   Using multimedia, our Grade 3 and 4 students have had some imaginative takes on how shape can be utilised as a building block for our arts practice.

In our upper years, our Grade 5/6s have been looking at Australian Abstract Landscape Artist Belynda Henry.  We’ve been focusing on ways of using materials and techniques to create reflections and how muted colour palettes can be created using colour value.

Lunchtime Art Program

Our Wednesday lunchtime Art Group has been working on learning new skills through designing and making their soft sculptures.  Students have developed their pattern making, designing and construction skills using sewing techniques to make their completed softies.

2025 Young Archies Awards

Our judges have completed the challenging task of whittling down our selected entries into the 2025 Tasmanian Young Archies Awards.

Congratulations to the following students whose work will be sent off to compete for Rosetta Primary:

Prep-Grade 2:  Maisey, Jililli, Alfie, Sakia, Julie, Angus, Jashwe and Reyansh.

Grade 3 – 4: Mason, Amos, Sarah, Arabella, Jade, David, Cooper F and Imogen.

Grade 5-6: Eliza, Claudia, Lucus, Maddy K, Emilio, Emily and Grace.

A big thank you to Mrs Arendt and Mrs Lenthall for undertaking this challenging task.

Well done to all Rosetta students on being such an inspirational and imaginative group of students!

Grade 2 Water Orientation

The Grade 2 Water Orientation began this week and students have greatly enjoyed the first couple of days. This program is designed to prepare our students for next year's Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP) where Grade 3-5 students participate in the annual required DECYP water safety program. This Grade 2 program will help our students become familiar around water and begin the process of promoting safe behaviours in water environments.

News from 3A

In 3A we have been learning about our environment and how the First Nation people connected with their country.

We read the story "Sea Country" by Aunty Patsy Cameron and made note of how the First Nation people used the migration of birds, the changing of the seasons and their environment to provide what they needed while looking after the land they lived on. We also looked into the use of bush medicine and how different ailments were treated before modern medicine. We also reflected on how we use similar connections to our land in the present day to know when to grow food, plan events, dress appropriately for the day and to tell the time of year.

We have found the research very interesting and we enjoyed typing up our findings and recording what we learned through pictures. Here is an example of some of our work.

E Team

Next term E Team members would like to reuse an old t shirt by turning it into a carry bag. E Team members who wish to participate will need to bring an old t shirt from home. Children's sized t shirts work best for this activity.

T shirts can be brought to school anytime between now and end of term ready for the activity next term.

Our fun fact this week is about recycling: old clothing can be recycled in a number of ways including cutting into rags, using squares to make a quilt or mat, cutting jeans down to make shorts and donating to charity.

All Children's University students are asked to bring passports in for stamping or email total hours to date before the end of term.

Thankyou
