Principals Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2, one which promises to continue the learning of our students along with many other planned activities.
A Retirement
After 33 years of dedicated service, (and over 40 years of connection with the school through children and grandchildren), we farewell Mrs Diane Fogarty, one of our amazing EFAs, as she heads into a well-earned retirement. Mrs Fogarty's contribution to Rosetta Primary has been remarkable, from her unwavering support of students and staff to her calm presence and professionalism with our school environment. Her commitment to our school, and warmth to all, have left a lasting impact on our school community.
I would like to, on behalf of everyone in our school community, thank Mrs Fogarty for everything she has given and wish her all the very best for her future.
An Update Rosetta Primary’s Outdoor Shade Area and Basketball Court
It is anticipated that the court surfacing will be laid during Weeks 3 and 4 of this term. Once this is done, the basketball hoops will be installed and the project finalised ready for use by our students.
I would like to on behalf of everyone thank AllenBuilt for their conscientious and thorough work with our project along with Mr Michael Cooper, our project coordinator and architect, Kings Outdoor Living for their amazing design and construction and Mr Shane Bogus from DECYP, for his support and coordination. I would also like to thank the staff of Rosetta Primary School for their patience and support of the project. I would also like to thank those staff members, with particular reference to Ms Jodi Cleaves, who were part of the school team, supporting the build and coordinating school movements during the construction. It is going to be a brilliant outdoor learning and sporting area, with our student leaders already planning how it will be used.
Kind regards
Mrs Arendt
Principal

Update from 4A
As ANZAC Day was during the school holidays, we started off the term remembering the brave men and women who fought to make our country a safer place. We developed our own ANZAC Day glossary by representing key words to show understanding and meaning.
We have also explored different materials within our classroom. We discovered lots of things are made of plastic!
We are continuing to strengthen our reading skills through daily fluency pairs. As a class we are working on pace, accuracy, expression, and tracking.
In Numeracy we have been working on column addition and subtraction. As well as problem solving using the CUBES strategy.
We are looking forward to a fulfilling and rewarding term ahead.

Excursion to TSO for “More Words and Music”.
Words and music work together in many ways – whether it be in the title of a piece, the words used to describe a musical mood or how the text of a story can be illuminated by sound.
On Tuesday 13 May, students in Prep, P-1, 1-2 & 2A will be travelling to the St Virgil’s College in Austins Ferry to hear a performance by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Students will leave school at 11:10am and will return by 12:45pm.
In this interactive concert students shape the performance by directing the musicians to play with a range of character and explore how words change the style and sound of a piece of music. Students will meet the instruments of the orchestra and learn the basics of conducting in a fun concert setting.
Students will need to be in school uniform.

Rosetta Primary Cross-Country
Our annual Cross Country Carnival will be held for the whole school on Tuesday 13 May in and around the school grounds. An Interschool team to compete at the SPSSA Carnival will be selected from Grade 3-6 students at the conclusion of our own school carnival. Students will become familiar with the course after practicing during PE classes.
K– Grade 2 races will be held inside the school grounds and races will be led and assisted by our House/Vice Captain.
Grade 3-6 races are also held in and around the school grounds with many course marshals along the way to aid and assist our students.

They represented the school by attending the service and then laying the wreath during the service.
At the service we saw Mr Simon Reade, our Grade 5-6 Band Teacher conducting the Glenorchy City Concert Brass Band and we also met many people from the local community on this commemorative day.
We appreciated the respect for ANZAC Day that Esther and Jeremiah demonstrated.

Democracy Day – Saturday 3 May 2025
There was lots happening at Rosetta Primary School on Saturday 3 May as the hall was used as an Australian Electoral Commission Voting site and the school hosted an Australian tradition of selling Democracy Day Sausages.
Some of the Student Parliament members were on site selling bunches of flowers, rhubarb, and sunflower seeds. All prepared and fresh from our school gardens. These were popular items and a sellout.
Thank you to the following school students who assisted on the day – either generally helping, selling sausages or working on the flower stall – Annabel G, (5-6D), Toby (5-6C), Zucco (4A), Phoebe O. (3B), Mary (5-6C), Esther, (5-6D), Isabelle A. (5-6C) , Phoebe G. (3A) Theo (3B), Max S. (3A), Henry S. (3-4), and Annabel Z. (5-6C). Their commitment and enthusiasm were well recognised by everyone.
Also, a special thank you to Chris (3B), Bailey T. (4A), and Mikey who helped cut the flowers and prepared the seeds.
The parent volunteers from the School Association were on hand and did a great job supporting the school and especially cooking the sausages!
Jason, Ben, Alision, Jill, Fiona, Kim, David, and Rowena.
Thanks also to the co-ordinator – Jodi our School Business Manager and Kate, Billie, and Jon who assisted from the school staff, and Charlotte (Kate's daughter).

E Team
Last week several E Team students attended the Taswater launch if their Waterwise online resources.
They have three illustrated booklets online which deal with important issues regarding our local water sources and usage.
The students were involved in a hands-on role play showing the types of materials which can pollute the water as it makes its way down the river.
The students then featured on the Southern Cross news that evening.
All students are to be congratulated on their excellent behaviour and participation
Our fun fact this week is regarding water pollution...
The main sources of pollution in our waterways are industries, agriculture, sewage and households.
Households pour oil and chemicals down the sink or use fertilisers which go into the storm water and then into the rivers.
