World of Learning – A  Celebration of Growth and Achievement

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our recent World of Learning event. It was a truly wonderful afternoon filled with joy, pride, and a strong sense of community.

The excitement was clear on the faces of our students as they welcomed their parents, carers, and families into their classrooms to share in the learning they've been part of so far this year. From thought provoking projects to creative displays and engaging presentations, it was a pleasure to see the confidence our students showed as they talked about their work.

The World of Learning included the contributions of our specialist areas.  Music, Art, and Physical Education were all on show, highlighting the breadth of experiences our students enjoy every week. Key learning areas such as literacy and numeracy were also a strong focus, with many families taking the opportunity to explore our UFLI programme and maths problem solving.

The feedback from staff was highly positive. Many expressed how much they appreciated and enjoyed watching their students share their learning with parents and carers. It was clear just how proud and engaged the students were, made even more meaningful by having that dedicated time to connect and reflect with their families.

I was particularly proud of our student leaders, who welcomed and hosted our visiting parents and carers with warmth and confidence. They answered questions, directed guests to classrooms, and ensured everyone felt supported and informed. It was a wonderful display of leadership, initiative and care.

It was fantastic to see such a high level of engagement from our community. 😊

A huge thank you to the dedicated staff at Rosetta Primary School, your efforts in preparing such an inclusive and vibrant showcase are much appreciated. A huge thank you to our families for your ongoing support and encouragement.

We are proud of all that's been achieved so far this year - and there's still so much more to come!

Kind regards
Deirdre

Prep, Prep-1, 1-2 & 2A Excursion to TSO for “More Words and Music”

Words and music work together in many ways – whether it be in the title of a piece, the words used to describe a musical mood or how the text of a story can be illuminated by sound.

On Tuesday 13 May students in Prep, P-1, 1-2 & 2A will be travelling to St Virgil’s College in Austins Ferry to hear a performance by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.  Students will leave school at 11:10am and will return by 1:00pm.

In this interactive concert students shape the performance by directing the musicians to play with a range of character and explore how words change the style and sound of a piece of music.  Students will meet the orchestra and learn the basics of conducting in a fun concert setting.

Visual Art Program

We have had a busy term in the Visual Arts Program at Rosetta.  Students across the grades have been working with our focus artist, Joan Miro with our learning centering around the Surrealist art movement.

Our lower classes have worked on several Miro-inspired projects focusing on our understanding of colour and line, with students producing some fantastic artworks.  The Miro-inspired creatures from Prep A and Grade 1 / 2 Roberts were a joy for students to both make and for our art classes to discuss.

In our upper primary classes, we have been distilling our understanding of colour theory and focusing on the Art Elements of line and space and the Art Principles of rhythm and balance.  Students in Grade 4 and 5 have been making Miro dreamscapes using watercolour and pen. Our Grade 5 and 6’s have been making 3D paper sculptures and challenging themselves to make their artworks stand unaided without any adhesives!

We look forward to seeing students again next term where we will be exploring new materials and artist.

Regional Basketball Championships

Over the last two weekends, our school basketball teams have been competing against various schools from the south in the Regional Basketball Championships. Our players committed to lunchtime and after-school training sessions in preparation for what was a great competition.

Our Grade 5/6 team consisted of Toby, Esther, Wil, Chris, Leo, Jordan, Mason, Zaylin, Riley, and Joaquin.  With most of the players having played in last year's tournament, they were a strong, consistent team and came and came away with four wins from their four games.

Our Grade 3/4 team consisted of mostly new players, some of which had never played a game of basketball before.  They played a wonderful team game, sharing and moving the ball well.  They didn’t quite come away with a win, however, every game was within their reach, with losses of less than 4 points.  The team consisted of Amber, Finn, Charlie, Nicholas, Theo, Charlie, Finn, Leo, and Max.

Special thanks to our coaches, Heidi, Evan, and Daniel, and to our referees Scarlett, Fraser, and David, and finally, to the families of the players.

We would also like to thank Montrose Bay High School for again providing their gymnasium for our training sessions.

E Team

The E Team held a 'Litter Free Lunch' day today.

All students were challenged to bring a lunch with minimum plastic wrapping/packaging to receive a raffle ticket to go into the running for a small prize.

We are impressed by how creative our families can be.

Our fun fact for this week is about more ideas to save water:

 - Use a bucket to wash your car instead of running the hose.

- Hand water lawns and gardens... or don’t water at all; the grass will grow back again in the cooler weather.

- Take your own refillable water bottle with you when you go out.

This week we are saying goodbye to one of our regular members who has been involved in a lot of our activities. Stella is moving on and we would like to say thank you for her involvement and wish her all the best.
