Principals Report
Welcome to Term 3,
we have had such a positive start, with our students commencing their focused and engaging learning. What was apparent as I visited each classroom was how the students were learning and striving hard to achieve success. They're talking to each other, sharing learning, building their friendship group and their belonging to the school community. Through that engagement with learning, I could see that our students were building their skills through hard work and fun, skills that will serve them through their learning journey and beyond. It was showing that every day of learning matters.
We have also had an amazing start to our assemblies this term with many celebrations covering: achievement at cross country where we won the division shield, through both individual and team efforts, for students being filmed about their learning in English along with staff for their knowledge about the teaching of English and very importantly, students being awarded a certificate and recognised for the respect they show to themselves, each other and all in our community. Our Grade 3s proudly presented their work from an excursion and our guitar group strummed confidently entertaining us with their first presentation performance for the year. It was such a joyous event and I’m looking forward to the oncoming ones.
Kind regards
Deirdre Arendt

Have your say on current feeder school arrangements
The Department for Education Children and Young People is seeking feedback from families on current feeder school arrangements. These arrangements have been in place for many years and are currently under review. The current feeder school arrangements have been published and can be found on the Department’s Find Your Local High School webpage. Feedback on these current arrangements can be provided via on online survey at the link below. Your feedback will be a valuable input into the review process.

SWSP
Grade 3 to 5 and some grade 6 students are commencing our annual Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP) in week 3 on Monday,7 August and continuing through until Friday 18 August.
The SWSP will again be held at Collegiate Pool throughout the day and are offering close to an hour of swimming instruction for each group in the pool. Students learn swimming strokes, water safety and water orientation skills to ensure they are comfortable in water environments.
There are 4 groups going with times for classes as follows:
Classes | Depart School | Lesson Start | Depart | Return to School |
---|---|---|---|---|
5/6C & 3/4 | 9:15am | 9.45am | 10.45am | 11:15am |
5/6A & 3A | 10:15am | 10.45am | 11.45am | 12:15am |
5/6D & 4/5 | 11:15am | 11.45am | 12.45pm | 1:15am |
5/6B, 4A & 2/3 | 12:15am | 12.45pm | 1.45pm | 2:15am |
This program is well regarded, and students have a great time learning lots of new safe water skills. It is expected that all students attend the SWSP in grades 3, 4 and 5. Collegiate pool staff allow parents to come and watch on the second Thursday of the program. Any spectators are asked to watch the swimming from the mezzanine area above the pool.
We hope all students enjoy this year’s program.
If you have any questions about the program, you are invited to ring 62081200.
Thanks

Kinder Enrolments 2024
We are now accepting enrolments for kindergarten 2024 (for children born in 2019). We encourage all families with children starting kindergarten in 2024 to complete an enrolment form available from the school office.
Families are welcome to join our pre-kinder program on Wednesdays 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Pre-Kinder Program Leader
The Bus Zone
Please remember school bus zones apply out the front of the school entry in the mornings and afternoons, to make it safe for all students. There is no parking or stopping (for drop-offs or pick-ups) in school bus zones during the times listed on the sign. In Weeks 3 & 4 this is particularly important as we will have buses in the vicinity early in the morning and at the end of the school day for a two-week period – please ensure the bus drivers have clear access to pick up and drop off students in a safe manner.

PRC Information

We are up and going with our Premier’s Reading Challenge and the response has been amazing. We are now in Week 6 of a 10 Week Challenge. What was impressive this year is that students continued their reading over the last school holidays and added the titles to their reading logs.
Students have also enjoyed setting their personal challenges and submitting their reading logs.
We will be starting to finalise the challenge by Friday 1 September.
Happy Reading!

Book Week

Coming soon in 2023!
21-25 August
This year’s theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire”- and books certainly allow us to do this. To broaden our minds, explore new things and be inspired to accept challenges creates a range of opportunities and learning experiences.
If families are interested in checking out the shortlisted books for 2023 you can visit:
for further information.
The date of our Parade will be Thursday 24 August in the afternoon. More details soon.

Smiling Mind

Staff have been undertaking Professional Learning about mindfulness and wellbeing and the impact on learning. Many classes have already established some foundation work in the Smiling Mind Program, and we are looking forward to providing families with information as we progress through the initial stages.
Watch for the image as we develop our program and don’t forget to ask your children about their work – it is fascinating to see how interested and embracing they are of the experiences.

Special Persons’ Day Stall
On Tuesday 29 August the School Association will be running our annual Special Persons’ Day Stall. Gifts will be aimed at the various special male role models in our students’ families, to coincide with Father’s Day.
Gifts will range from $1 to $10 per item, with a limit of 2 items per student and students will attend with their class groups.
We are not requesting donations, however if you would like to donate something for the stall, we are in need of items for our gift bundles, such as chocolates, liquorice, socks, wrapped lollies or alike. Items do need to be in date and unused condition. Items can be left at the office.

Student Engagement and Wellbeing Survey for students Grade 4-6
Monday 28 August – Friday 22 September
This survey occurs annually and provides us with a snapshot of what students feel about being safe, well, and positive. The snapshot helps us to better understand the needs of students and how to support them and their friends. This is particularly the case between wellbeing and learning.
This is a confidential survey and the only information shared is as a data snapshot – no names attached.
Students are fully supported through the process by members of the Wellbeing Team. If families have any concerns, please contact the front office or Mrs Lenthall if you would like further details.
Attached is a form that will need to be completed by families in instances where the student will be withdrawn from participation. Please return this by August 15.

E Team

Last week the E Team students celebrated National Tree Day by doing a number of activities.
We collected a range of different shaped leaves from the playground and made a leaf rubbing, we coloured drawings of the Rainbow Lorikeet and made National Tree Day bookmarks.
A small group of E Team students then helped Mr Clark to plant some new shrubs and trees in the Kinder playground.
The E Team would like everyone to know that the best ways to look after trees are….
- Choose the Right Species. If you're planning to plant trees from scratch, the first vital thing is to pick the right species.
- Test Your Soil.
- Ensure Your Trees Have Space.
- Water Your Trees Enough.
- Add a Layer of Mulch Around the Trees.
- Prune Your Trees Periodically.
In this week’s Assembly we awarded several Tidy Tuesday certificates for students who were observed taking extra care in the environment. Well done and thank you to Tom, Libby, Chris, Jordan, Ollie, Ella, Poppie and Jasper.

During that week LiLs and Pre-Kinder children will participate in some hands-on activities run by our student leadership team and the Grade 3, 3-4 and 4-5 classes will be visited by some Young Tassie Scientists.
As Week 3 and 4 will involve the Swimming and Water Safety program, Rosetta Primary Prep – Grade 6 will be observing Science Week in Week 6, on the 31 August and 1 September when classes will also take part in a range of hands- on Science related activities.
