Principals Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

A Thank You and Farewell

As this term comes to an end, we bid farewell to Ms Sophie Baric as she embarks on her journey to Queensland to continue her teaching career. I would like to thank Ms Baric for all the wonderful work she has done with the students at Rosetta Primary. Her dedication, flexibility, and genuine interest in supporting our students have been truly appreciated.

On behalf of everyone in our community, I would like to wish Ms Baric all the best in this next chapter of her teaching journey.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to Mr Sam Dobransky, who has created a mural of dynamic colour and movement on the end of the Grade 5/6 and Music room section. We have all been eagerly anticipating the event and how wonderful does it look? Already I have had so much positive feedback from our community.  So, thank you once again Mr Dobransky.

Regular School Attendance

When students regularly attend school, many positive actions occur.

  • Their social skill development is supported.
  • their decision-making abilities are increased.
  • Their emotional resilience is promoted and supported.
  • It helps build a foundation for their future success at later schooling.

All of our staff work with students to create inclusive and respectful environments. We take pride in building positive values, which our students can take with them into their future.  We listen to their voice and include them in decisions within the school..

Every day counts 😊

World of Learning

It is the eve of the World of Learning and all the preparation has been done. I would like to thank and congratulate all the work our staff and students have done in the preparation for this event, and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm.

Student Parliament Report

We wrote a letter to the Wellbeing team asking if it is possible to reintroduce the wellbeing suitcases. The suitcases contained activities and games that were presented to classes that demonstrated respect and responsibility during assembly. We are waiting for a response.

We are in the process of writing a grant submission for new play equipment for the 5/6 playground. This involves writing a letter stating the reasons why the Grade 5/6 playground needs replacing. We hope to get some money from the grant to purchase new equipment.

Students are still volunteering to swing a large skipping rope for younger students at play times until the end of Term 3.

The competition for the Student Parliament letter head is still running. This is open to all students at Rosetta Primary. The letter head should contain a logo or drawing that represents the Student Parliament. We have received a few entries already. We have extended the closing date to Friday 18 October.

A thankyou to Woolies

Rosetta Primary would like to express their sincere thanks to Woolworths Supermarkets for some recent generous donations.

Woolworths at Glenorchy have donated a box of aprons suitable for the younger grades to use for painting, water play etc. which will be put to very good use.

Woolworths have also kindly donated some fruit to be given away during out World of Learning tomorrow afternoon.

We appreciate these generous gestures very much.

Triathlon

Students who are interested in this year’s triathlon, to be held on Friday 29 November, are reminded to have their forms back by this Thursday 26 September. This allows for students details to be entered, and for the triathlon packs to be ordered and delivered to school. Last year there was around 2000 primary school students who participated in the triathlon in Tasmania, with around 50 Rosetta students participating in what was a great event.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey

During the last 4 weeks students in Grades 4-6 have completed the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey for 2024. This survey asks students about how they are feeling, how they are engaging at school and asks about other aspects of their wellbeing. The results for this survey will be shared in Term 4.

Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 17 September students from Grades 3-6 attended the Clarence Aquatic Centre for the annual Swimming Carnival.

The students who participated are to be commended on their courage for entering the swimming races. All students who competed did an amazing job.

The winning house for 2024 was Mace scoring 570 points.  Nile finished 2nd with 467 points and Rashid finished 3rd with 430 points.

The interschool team will be selected from these results and will be announced soon. The Interschool Swimming Carnival will be held on Thursday 7 November.

E Team

The E Team have been hard at work spreading soil and compost onto our bush garden area ready for planting.

Our plants have arrived from Plants of Tasmania at Ridgeway, who specialise in indigenous plants.

We are now waiting for some settled weather to plant them.

Our sign is ready, and Izzy and Amelie have created a poster to add a QR code so you can get access to information about the plants.

Our fun fact this week is:

There are an astounding 24,000 species of native plants in Australia, making the country's flora one of our most prized assets. Here are some of the more common species you can spot in the wild - acacia, eucalyptus, melaleuca, Proteaceae, flax and pepperberry.

Art Update

Students across the Rosetta Art Program have been working on a variety of different projects during Term 3 with Ms Burgess.  We have some amazing emerging artists within our school who are continually striving to produce quality work and look forward to further celebrating their wonderful creations.

In Prep A and Prep-1 classes, students have been working on their mixed media Birds.  They focused on developing their observation skills and continued their exploration of the medium of watercolour.  Students have looked at both artists Grotti Lotti and Pete Cromer during their latest projects and we look forward to these creations heading home to be viewed by their families and caregivers.

In upper primary, a group of 5-6s, have also been hard at work designing and creating their own watercolour and collage animals inspired by Pete Cromer.  A great deal of time and skill was involved in these lovely pieces which will be up in students' classrooms to view.
