Student Parliament Report
Hello everyone – this is the latest news from the Student Parliament Executive:
Firstly, we would like to tell you about the Mural:
We are updating everyone on the Mural Project and would like to share the results of our overall school vote:
329 votes were accepted and 31 staff participated.
Mural A had 60 votes and Mural B had 62 votes.
There were 207 votes for Mural C. We would like to announce that Mural option C was the preferred choice for Rosetta Primary.
We would like to thank everyone for their vote.
We will now talk with Mr Dobransky about arranging for the Mural to be started later in the term.
Secondly thank you for taking the time to donate to the Dog’s Home Fundraiser. Families have been very generous in donating food, dog treats, toys and bedding. Thank you.
Our first box of items is full, and it will be delivered to the dog's Home this week.
Regards from Rory C and Mateo

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence has a new name—Bullying No Way: National week of action. The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone belongs'. When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. This week is about remembering to celebrate who we are individually, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness. It’s a great reminder for us to take these actions during this week and throughout the year.
Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We encourage our students and community to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued. These actions continue to build Rosetta’s culture. As Rosetta, we continuously work together as a school community to make everyone feel included and safe. We have a strong procedure for managing unkind or aggressive behaviours when they occur. We also have a strong supportive culture in each classroom that helps students talk about concerns and matters which are important them. We have spaces and programs throughout the school that helps connect students and let them engage positively with other students and staff. Our ongoing goal is to enable all students to know they have someone they can talk to if they have a worry or if they are not feeling safe.
Today, may be a good day for you to have a conversation with your children about bullying and violence at school and ask them if they feel safe and supported. If you have any feedback for us, please email or ring the school and one of our staff will talk with you.
As a school, we will continue to address themes of bullying and violence and teaching students how to recognise risk to their own or someone else’s safety. This is more than a school issue. It is an action for our entire community, and we all have an important role to play. We are stronger when we work together.
To find out more about National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, visit the Bullying No Way website. I have also attached 2 fact sheets with some helpful information.
If this letter had raised any concerns for you or your child, I encourage you to seek advice and support from one of the following organisations:
- Beyond Blue – call 1300 224 636 or visit the Beyond Blue website.
- Kids Helpline – call 1800 551 800 or visit the Kids Helpline website.
I, along with my staff, am always available to talk and if you would like to speak to me or your child’s teacher about this on an individual basis, please get in touch.
Kind regards
Deirdre

Book Week 2024
Saturday 17 August – Friday 23 August – Celebrates Book Week 2024.
This year the theme will be Reading is Magic and the feature artist/illustrator is Jess Racklyeft.
On Friday 23 August for Prep-6 students the school will be celebrating Book Week with their annual parade. Students are welcome to dress up as their favourite character and share their favourite books with others. We encourage students to be creative and original with their ideas and creations. The various competitions we have during the week will include all students celebrating Book Week whether they choose to participate in creating a costume or not.
Parents are welcome to attend in the afternoon for the annual parade and this will get underway from 2:00pm in the Gazebo before moving to the Hall. The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The Student Wellbeing & Engagement Survey for 2024
For Grade 4-6 students
This begins on Monday 26 August and closes on 20 September. Students will be supported through the process at all times. All students’ details stay confidential.
Parents from Grade 4-6 will already have received the relevant information about the survey with the last newsletter. We encourage families to read this information and discuss the importance of taking part with their child/ren.
This is a valuable way for the school to obtain Wellbeing data. It helps us to evaluate programs and actions and to guide planning for positive outcomes for all students in our school.
For further details or information please contact the front Office on 62081200 or talk with Mrs Lenthall.

5-6A Save a Heart Fundraiser
Rosetta Primary School has recently purchased our first Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) with funds raised by Grade 5-6A.
At the beginning of the year, students in 5-6A recognised that the school was in need of an AED as the nearest available device was situated at a local business several minutes away. The class did a little research and discovered that in the event of a person suffering a cardiac event, proximity to an AED is vital. Precious minutes would be lost travelling to and from the nearest device.
The solution? The children decided to fundraise for the school’s own device!
With an initial fundraising goal determined, they set out to write to several business and community groups explaining the situation and asking for small donations. The Glenorchy City Council, Budget Rental Cars, Rotary (Glenorchy) and the wonderful Rosetta Primary School canteen among others, generously chose to support the fundraiser.
The students really wanted to make a more personal contribution though, so they began to sew small felt hearts to sell through the school.
Over the next term, the class and their families sewed over 300 little hearts!
To the students delight, the school community showed huge support for the project and the fundraiser was an amazing success!
Recently the students were proud to be able to purchase the lifesaving AED and took great interest in a training session from Moreton Services, the supplier of the device.
We will be presenting the AED to Ms Arendt in assembly on Monday 26th August and the students would welcome the opportunity to thank all those who helped us by donating, sewing or purchasing a felt heart.
Although all the students in 5-6A and our wider school community, sincerely hope the device will never be needed they are reassured that it is there if required to save a life.

Our sunflower seeds have sprouted, and we are making sure they have plenty of water and sunshine.
In our last meeting, we planted seed potatoes in our special green plastic tubes. Last year we had a great crop and are hoping for the same this year. We are growing Pink Eyes and Kennebecs.
Our fun fact this week is about plant sustainability…
10 Sustainable Gardening Tips to Make Your Yard More Eco-Friendly:
- Go Organic for Sustainable Gardening.
- Mulch Your Landscape.
- Plant Natives.
- Lose Your Lawn (Or Part of It).
- Water Less.
- Grow Your Own Food.
- Plant Perennials.
- Save Seeds.

Science Week
The theme for Science Week this year is Species Survival - more than just sustainability and we have chosen to create a Bush Tucker Garden.
We are holding a competition to name our garden and thank you to those people who have sent in their entries. We have some interesting choices! If you would like to enter, a form was sent home last week, and you have until this Friday 16 August to return it to the office.
We will also have a visit from Dr Lila Landowski, aunt of Stella in 2A, informing us about her life as a scientist.
Feeling a bit left out? No problem, here are some websites with fun experiments to try at home.
