Principals Report
Over the last few weeks we have had many reasons to celebrate our students. Congratulations must go to the Grade 5 and 6 students who entered the Lions Club Peace Poster Competition, they were: Scarlett, Taylah, Mimi, Mia-Rose, Rory and Sophia. This Peace Poster competition, gave our students the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. A special mention must go to Scarlett for her award of first place and to Taylah for her award of second place.
Thanks must also go to Mrs Burgess for her generous time allocation so that the entrants could create their posters in the lunchtime.
Congratulations must also go to our interprimary swimming team, a team who gave their very best on the day and represented the school proudly with outstanding behaviour. Many thanks to Mr Johnstone for his coordination of the team.
During lunchtimes, we have a number of competitions currently happening or about to occur. Thanks must go to Miss Graham for her coordination of the Netball competition. Teams are formed and led by students and the standard of competition is high. The Futsal competition is about to start and that is another competition where students create and captain their teams to an elimination final. Thanks to Mr Johnston for his coordination of this event and to Mr Huseyin for his support in this competition.
It is also wonderful to see our music room open at lunchtimes with students invited to use the instruments to rehearse and practise music. Thanks must go to Miss Castle for this opportunity which she presents to the students.
As you can see, we have many active opportunities for our students at lunchtimes, all of which they enthusiastically participate in.
Kind regards
Deirdre

After 8 years of being our Lolly Pop lady, Valma has made the decision to leave due to health reasons. Valma has sent this message; ‘ Thank you to all the people I have met in my 8 years of doing this job. I will miss you all. All parents should be very proud of their children, they are well mannered’.
We would like to thank Val for her years of service and friendly manner, and we wish her well for her future.
The Lion’s Club Peace Prize
Last Tuesday 31October, a small group of students from Grade 5 and 6 at Rosetta Primary were invited to an awards ceremony for the Lion’s Club Peace Poster Prize. The students involved had sacrificed their lunchbreaks and their own time during their holidays in the weeks preceding the event on their individual submissions for the prize. The calibre of work produced by these students was incredibly high and the judges advised they were impressed with the submissions by our students.
During the event, we are proud to advise that Rosetta Primary was lucky enough to be awarded first, second and third prize in the awards. A big congratulations to Scarlett who was awarded first place, Taylah who received second place and Mimi who was awarded third place. Further congratulations need to be extended to all the students who participated and their amazing work. Scarlett’s work will now continue on into the Tasmanian division of the international competition, where it will be judged against entries from all over Tasmania. We wish her all the best and look forward to hearing further progress on her participation in this event.

Hobart City Mission Food or Toy Hampers for Christmas
In the front foyer we have containers available for the collection of food items or toys that can support families in Hobart requiring additional support during the festive season. We are accepting tins and other food items that have the dates checked and suitable for families to use. Toy donations should be suitable for younger children. We appreciate donations to Hobart City mission.
The Wellbeing Team
Toys
We recommend that toys or other personal items brought to school by students are named as during play these are often shared in games, misplaced or indeed at times lost or confused with the belongings of others. Sometimes younger children in particular struggle to understand the idea of lending a toy during play time and then returning the item. Staff are unable to guarantee the safety of personal items that students bring to school.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all students who completed the 2023 Premier’s Reading Challenge. The special certificates from the Premier of Tasmania, Jeremy Rockliff MP have been handed out to students. Thanks to everyone who participated and especially the families who supported this opportunity.
Happy Reading and we look forward to students participating again in 2024.

Assistant Principal
Carpark Reminder
The speed limit in the carpark is 5 km as signposted. There is a no parking zone identified on the turning circle and a no turning right at the exit point from the driveway. The pedestrian crossing in front of the school is also not a place for students to bedropped off or collected.
Families should be conscious of paying attention to all the signs and markings on the roadway at the front of the school (including the yellow painted line) and in the school grounds. The signs are to protect all pedestrians and keep everyone safe.
Sunhats
As part of being a SunSmart School we are encouraging all students to wear their sunhats for outdoor play and all sporting activities. This is part of our sun safe commitment to student wellbeing. We also encourage the use of the school hat. Please ensure your child has a sunhat available for school. Anyone who requires support in this matter should contact Mrs Lenthall.
More family information about being aware of sun safety can be found at –

Quick facts for families to consider:
- Skin canceris the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia.
- Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.
- Data tells us that more than 18,200 people have already received a melanoma diagnosis in 2023.
- The sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiationis the major cause of skin cancer. UV damage also causes sunburn, tanning, premature ageing, and eye damage. The good news is you can prevent damage – and skin cancer – by being SunSmart.
- Whenever UV levels reach three or higher sun protection is necessary. Evidence suggests that prolonged sun exposure increases your risk of developing skin cancer.
- Unlike the sun's heat and light, we can't see or feel UV energy, so check the UV for your location on the free SunSmart appor on the Bureau of Meteorology website.

MANAGING SAFEGUARDING RISKS IN OUR SCHOOLS
Our staff play a key role in keeping students safe by proactively monitoring any risks.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) recently released new Safeguarding Risk Management resources for our schools to assist with this.
These resources are designed to help us continuously identify, prevent and reduce risks to students of child abuse and harm, and support our school to be a safe environment where every child and young person can thrive and grow.
During this term we will be developing a Safeguarding Risk Management plan for our school. The plan sets out the risks that we can identify, and most importantly, how we can reduce them.
As parents and carers, you play an important role helping us to identify safeguarding risks in our school, and I’m sure you may also have ideas on how we can reduce these risks to keep students safe.
If you or your child/children have any questions, concerns or wish to report any incidents relating to child abuse or harm, I encourage you to reach out to me or a trusted staff member. We welcome your views and any feedback.
The Tell Someone website is also another useful source of information if you are worried that a child may be at risk of harm or is being sexually abused or groomed.
If you have any concerns, the website gives clear information about what to look for, how to make a report and who to speak to.
For further information on the work being done on safeguarding in our school, please visit DECYP's website.

Children’s University
Next Tuesday, 14 November, 38 of our students will be graduating from Children’s University at Stanley Burbury theatre UTAS.
All these students have done an amazing job of being involved in learning opportunities outside of school hours.
Some students are graduating for the first time with 30 hours and some who have been involved for a number of years, have hundreds of hours.
One of our students has accumulated a fantastic 610 hours!
Congratulations to the following students who will be leaving Children’s University at Rosetta Primary at the end of 2023.
We would like to say thank you for your commitment and wish you all the best for the future……. Lydia, Aleerah, Sophia, Sena, Haylee, Allegra, Jett, Amali, Bayleigh, Mimi, Caitlin, Ella B,and Anand.

E Team

The E Team students have been busy planting seedlings, thank you very much to Mr Griff Abery, ready for the summer season.
We have planted lettuces, tomatoes, sunflowers and corn.
When we put our tomatoes out to prepare them, the tops off every plant disappeared!
We are pointing our fingers at the birds, slugs or possums.
Last Thursday, we made some recycled paper banners to scare the birds away and so far they seem to be working!
We have our fingers crossed.
Our fun fact this week is…
Shiny, reflective objects make great deterrents for problematic birds. The reflection of light off of these objects discourages birds from returning to these areas. These shiny objects, such as old CDs, aluminium cans, tin foil, small mirrors, or even metallic wrapping paper, can be hung near nesting or landing areas frequented by the problematic birds.
